Krone refrigerated trailers: what to check on the refrigeration unit
photo · Krone refrigerated trailer
A refrigerated trailer is really two products in one: the semi-trailer itself and the refrigeration unit. The second often costs as much as a third of the whole rig, so it needs to be inspected separately and with a critical eye.
Carrier or Thermo King
Both brands are the global standard, with service networks across Europe and Ukraine. There's no real difference in reliability: don't look at the badge, look at the specific unit — its model, year, engine hours and service history.
What to check on the unit
- Engine hours: under 10,000 is good condition; over 20,000 — budget for repairs.
- Temperature test: the unit should reach -20°C and hold the setting steadily, not just "blow cold."
- Uniformity: check the temperature in both the front and rear of the box.
- Box: the condition of the panels from the inside, the integrity of the floor, the seal of the doors — damaged walls mean lost cold.
- ATP/FRC certificates, if you plan to run international pharmaceutical or food transport.
Krone Cool Liners on our yard go through a unit test before they're listed — the engine hours and the measured results are something your manager will show you right there at the inspection.
